![]() Which brings us to Lovecraft Country, a book by a white writer about a cast of black characters living in 1950s America. A statuette of this racist man’s head is one of my greatest honours as a writer.’ This followed a long campaign by fantasy authors, famously including Nnedi Okorafor, who, after winning the award, wrote about how conflicted she was about it: ‘A statuette of this racist man’s head is in my home. ![]() So much so that in 2015 the World Fantasy Awards stopped using an image of Lovecraft as its award statue. But it is also now widely acknowledged that Lovecraft’s work was informed by his own white supremacist, racist and anti-Semitic attitudes. As each remake came out, I became curious about the novel many film watchers alleged that the movie is based on. Later I watched the Tamil version of the movie, which was good and thankfully didn’t watch the Hindi version, Drishya, which was a horrible re-make. The movie was brilliant but there were allegations that the story was inspired by The Devotion of Suspect X, which were repeatedly denied by the director Jeethu Joseph. I came to know about by Keigo Higashino when I watched the Malayalam movie Drishyamfew years ago. ![]() If the truth is proved to be wrong, does it mean it will cease to exist?
